Nebraska Sandhills are rated the world's most intact prairie -  (Nebraska)  “Grasslands are, in fact, the least protected and most under threat. We reiterate that all the time — but the situation continues to get worse over time.”

Podcast:

Richard Louv - Last Child in the Woods - author Richard Louv and Stefan Van Noorden discuss the isolation and disconnect people experience when they are unable to connect with nature.  Richard Louv penned the condition, "Nature deficit disorder".

Scenes:

Red Rock Canyon - (Nevada)  - located just west of Las Vegas, Nevada, this stunning area offers multiple themed hiking trails in colorful canyons and open lands.  The Clark County Wetlands  are located in southeast Las Vegas - this created wetland that cleans and filters city water before it exits to Lake Mead.  There are plenty of trails and shade and a small nature center.  Friendly volunteers can fill you in on the plants and abundant wildlife that inhabit the wetlands in a desert.   The Sloan Canyon National Conservation Area is located just south of Las Vegas in Hendersonville, and offers more than 48,000 acres of BLM lands for exploration in a variety of geologic, vegetative and historic interest.  Las Vegas in the winter offers temperate daytime outdoor opportunities within easy traveling distance from affordable lodging.  What happens in Vegas is the great outdoors!

Education:

The Dyck Arboretum of the Plains - offers a photo series of examples and information for replacing the lawn with native plants.  Create more beauty, texture, and places for nectar flowering plants to attract butterflies, bees, and birds.

Ellsworth American. (Maine)  Winter wonderland: Creating a garden for your viewing pleasure during the cold season.

Blog Post:

Edge of the Woods Nursey and Landscaping - blog posts several times each month on landscaping with native plants.  The business specializes in plants native to the Mid-Atlantic and Northeast ecosystems.  Landscaping services are available year-round.

Scenes:

Tadmore Greens (Ohio) - finishes stratification of seeds in the refrigerator.  Read about their amazing work to grow native plants to sell, and then spend half the profits on raising edible plants for the local foodbank.

Education:

Scratchmade Journal - a web resource for sharpening observation skills by creating a detailed nature journal.

Interest in native plants is increasing exponentially. I am working to collect and organize information in one place for everyone to use.  


My intent is to create a vibrant, informative community resource for people that are passionate about native plants and places, true to the NPN motto:  Connecting people and places to native plants.
